Church of Scotland Choir looking for new singers to join us for our Christmas Carol Service

The choir of the Church of Scotland in Geneva are looking for new singers, particularly to give our much loved Carol Service some extra exuberance on 8 December.

Our repertoire will feature mainly traditional Christmas Carols and seasonal music, including an excerpt from Handels Messiah. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings at 8pm at the Auditoire de Calvin in the old town. We also have a couple of extra rehearsals at weekends nearer the time of the service. Experienced choral singers are welcome to join us for the final weekend rehearsals only.

If you can hold a tune and read music, or even if you have a good ear and can learn music quickly, please get in touch and join the fun! The Choir Director also promises to bake muffins for everyone for the final rehearsal. Smile

If you are interested, please email me at [email protected]

Hi Lucie,

So glad I came across your post. I have extensive choir experience and would love to have the opportunity to join your choir for the Christmas Carol service! Let me know if/when auditions are being held...

Thanks!

Juliana

Hi Juliana,

Its great to hear from you!  No auditions necessary at this stage, your extensive choral experience will do very nicely. LaughingAs I mentioned, I appreciate that some members of the choir have busy lives and can't always commit to a Wednesday evening which is fine for the Christmas Service provided you can come to the last few rehearsals.  I can easily send electronic copies of the music when this is the case.

I'll drop you a PM so we can arrange the best time for you to come and join us.

Best wishes,

Lucie

I will not send a message here if i can' sing. If you (Casuistik) is the musical director of the said choir, then i'm in the wrong thread.

I used "do you accept asian" line cause it's Church of SCOTLAND and Asians are not welcome, the reason i asked first. Bye the way i am not an Opera singer. I was a band member playing in Hotel Allegro Kursal Bern (lobby lounge, Inside Disco, Arena, restaurant EURASIA, from 1998-2005 ( 6 to 8 months stay). Also play in Central Samui, Central Bangkok, and so on. I stopped singing for my family. Now i want to sing as a church choir. But i guess i am in the wrong place...

Well, Juliana is from the States and she received a warm welcome...

How about not thinking that you are in the wrong thread, the wrong place and that you are not welcome?

Hi Joy,

We warmly welcome all nationalities and indeed have a very international and inclusive congregation. For the carol service, I am looking for singers who can blend in with a traditional classical music orientated choir, have experience of singing in harmony and can preferably read music - but you certainly don't need to be an opera singer!

If it is a classical choir you are looking for, do come along to one of our Wednesday rehearsals at 8pm at the Auditoire de Calvin, 1 Place de la Taconnerie, Geneva. Smile

Best wishes,

Lucie

Just for the record, the Church of Scotland in Geneva is a Presbyterians/Reformed Church community in which over 30 nationalities and 14 demoninations are represented.  In addition to European and North American members, we have many Asian, African and South American friends in our midst.

The church website gives more details, but you can also p.m. if you’d like to.

Best wishes,

Ritchie
