Hi Leena

The 'xx pieces' refers to the number of rooms in the apt/house.

In Switzerland, they also count the kitchen as a room (if im not mistaken) so '4 pieces' would mean 3 bedrooms and a kitchen.

Someone please correct me if Im wrong here.

This way of counting exists, to my knowledge, only in Geneva. Elsewhere in Switzerland, the kitchen is not considered as a room (pièce).

In Geneva the kitchen is counted as one of the "piece". So, for example, if you see somewhere advertised as a "3 pièces", this wd indicate that you have 1 bedroom, 1 living/dining room and a kitchen. The bathroom is not counted. Sometimes you see ads that mention "x pieces et demi". This "half" room usually refers to a larger than average hallway or a tiny room that is more like a cupboard. It can vary.

In other parts of Switzerland I think the kitchen and bathroom are not counted (correct me if I'm wrong) so a "3 pieces" would indicate a 2 bedroom flat.

Take two off the number of pieces to get the number of bedrooms. 4 pieces is definitely a 2-bedroom flat.
