Hi,
Just wondering if anyone came up with an easy way to disinfect the communal washing machine before using it.
Thanks all.

How exactly do you disinfect a washing machine anyway? Never heard about doing this before!

Run it for one cycle, empty, with hot water, soap, and bleach? Seems wasteful but I doubt anything would survive that.

I would avoid the use of bleach in communal machines, pretty sure it's not allowed, and if something goes wrong you could be in for a hefty bill to repair or even replace an industrial grade machine, or some angry neighbour as their clothes got bleached!

Why does it need disinfecting. Whatever comes out should be clean and the washing itself disinfects the machine.
Do aan emply wash with powder if you want but it is ecologically unfirendly and a complete waste of time
If you can prove the state of the machine is a danger to health then by all means take the rgie or the manufacuterers to court

Dorot K,
I'd follow Richardm's advice (and heat the water as much as possible).
Paul E,
something may be clean but not necessarily disinfected.

Some washing-machines have an ‘H’ (for Hygiene) programme, so look at the dial of the machine you use to see if it has this function.
If not, and you’re really concerned about the state of the machine, contact the Régie or landlord/lady. And definitely avoid using bleach or anything of the sort.
Good luck!

Like many others would say, always start your wash loads with the bed sheets as they should be washed to highest temperature (minimum 65° an up) . When wash cycle is over you empty the machine and start right behind a new load running the unit at normal temperature depending on your needs and garment resistance.

You don't need to disinfect it before using it.
Wash the white load first. With hot water and bleach - this has a powerful germ killer effect.
Then wash the coloured load.

Have just read through the instructions for my washing machine - there is nothing about cleaning and disinfecting. The only problem can be a build up of scale and that is for the regie to sort out.
If it is a case of disinfecting because you think other people's washing needs disinfecting, forget. You will have to do it every time and that is not what a communal washing machine is about.
If it really worries you, buy a machine and if you have no room, throw out the dishwasher

Thank you all!
Thanks a lot for your empathy.
