Commute from Annecy area to Geneva (Paquis-Nations)

Dear Friends,

I am moving to the Geneva area in October, for a consulting job based in the Paquis-Nations neighborhood. After years of living in cities, and with a new baby, we are hoping to try some country living for a change. We had a look at the French areas just off the A41 between Annecy and Geneva and they are gorgeous.

But what about the commute into Geneva? We weren't around for a weekday, so couldn't try it out ourselves. From my online research, it seems the A41 is okay, but that things slow down toward the border crosssing and then can be quite poor on Route 1 in metropolitan Geneva. Google maps' traffic feature shows some serious back ups on the Swiss side during rush hours.

Does anyone have any personal experience making this commute in a car on a regular basis? How painful is it? Are there any workarounds? Will this commute turn our rural idyll into a work-day hassle?

Any insights or recommendations would be welcome.

Thanks.
