Commuting from Chamonix to Geneva?
Dear all
I was wondering if anyone could comment on how feasible it would be to commute from Chamonix to Geneva, say two or three times a week.
What is the best form of public transport, or is driving best? The best I could find is 'Alpy-bus' at 20Euros or so one way!
Any comments gratefully appreciated.Clare(Currently based in UK)

Hi Clare,
It takes about an hour to drive to Chamonix from Geneva...  The toll for the French part of the motorway is 5.40 euro each way (I think).  You will also need a Swiss motorway sticker which costs 40chf for a year.
No idea what the bus journey would be like...
Hope this helps a bit

Dear K - thanks a million for this.  An hours drive on the 'route blanche' sounds a bit daunting (I'm a new driver).  I shall check out further options.

Thanks

Hi Clare,

Public transport from Chamonix to Geneva has always been a bit sketchy - for way too long! There are people commuting from Cham and further down the valley by car, you might be able to rideshare: try placing a free ad on http://www.cham74.com/ or place an ad on the board at the mairie (town hall). The back route to Geneva via Bonneville and Annemasse is toll-free.. and not much slower outside of commute hours.. but evenings it's crazy! Hope this is of some help! Ask away if you've other questions - I've lived on and off in Cham for past 15 years.. : )
