One could start with the obvious advice to remove Vista and install an operating system, or question why on earth someone would want Vista AND Java, but that would probably not be very helpful.

Try another version of Java, eg. SE6, or fiddle with security settings, as Vista doesn't allow anything or anyone to do anything - not even sure this is possible, and it may expose you to security risks.[/quote]

I am a IT idiot. If I replace VISTA or JAVA...what are the possibilities? VISTA comes with the laptop, can it be remove/change/replace...then with what..how is it possible?

Please advise in a layman's term.

Cheers,

Mike.

First, what exactly isn't working, and who's complaining? Please note that Javascript support is distinctly different from Java support (two different languages). I assume that your web browser is complaining about this. Correct?

I have no clue here what you mentioned, don't know the difference.

The problem is that the images and pages are not complete or have errors on them. What do you reckon is the problem? I got reply back that my javascript is not working properly when I send a message out...?

Thanks for your feeback.

Mike.

Try Firefox. It's a better browser anyway: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

Well, for now, it's good enough that the application does. I do recommend acquiring a minimal level of computer literacy, however, lest you fall prey to maundering operating system jihadists...

Again, when does that happen, and which program is complaining? If it's Internet Explorer, security settings might be too tight.

HTH

I have no clue or idea which program is complaining.

Its just the images and some fucntions that I click on my screen does not work -

On the left hand bottom corner of the screen - Done - "page error" - which I have no idea what is the problem or where to find this problem hence to solve the problem.

Thanks for your advise.

Mike.

Well, that's a bummer for someone who's professed industry is 'Internet', which means a. you're trolling or b. someone's abusing your account. Either way, you've earned a nastygram to the forum administrator.

Why don't you bring the laptop to where you got it, get a full money refund, go to the nearest Apple dealer and buy a MacBook/Pro/Air?

Vista is not for idiots^Wnormal users. You need to be quite computer-literate to understand what it wants to do when it asks you a question.

If you aren't and you can't call the IT department (because it's your private lappy), then VISTA (or anything from MSFT except maybe the X-Box and their mice) is not for you.

If the refund is not possible, let the shop where you bought the bloddy thing fix it for you.

That's what shops are for. If you bought it mail-order, call the mail-order shop or go to some local shop and have it fixed for money (that's the money you saved buying mail-order...)

It may not be possible to install anything else but Vista on it.

(No XP drivers anymore).

From the 10 or so die-hard Windows people at work, nobody is really looking forward to Vista (else they would have installed it already - it's out almost 18 months now).

Which is not surprising - who in his right mind would install an OS that makes the daily work more difficult?

Sorry to sound like an Apple-zealot - but it's the only sensible choice if you don't have an IT-department you can rely on for fixing things and actually want to get stuff done (in time, that is).

Hi Mike,

This is not really the best forum for getting IT help only because it is very general. Here is my advise for any issue you are having:

1. Write down (or do a "Print Screen") of any error message you are getting.

2. Note what you were doing at the time you got the message (what programs you were using, etc).

3. Type the basics of the error message into to Google (or other search engine) and see if you can find other forums with people who have had the issue.

3. There are a group of GLocals that run TechTalk a weekly get together for just this kind of problem. Bring your laptop there if the issue is happening when you are off line and there maybe someone there who can troubleshoot it.

With all due respect, saying that "JAVA script is not working well" is like calling your repair shop and tell the guys that your car makes a funny nose -- please could you help. From there on, you have three options, all of which have already been mentioned in this thread:

- Get in touch with a computer specialist who could have a look at your machine

- Attend a Glocal IT workshops

- Post your problem on one of the numerous technical forums on Internet. A good way to find them is to Google your error message.

Good luck.
