Computer help for the visually handicapped

After 'managing' more or less successfully with only one 'good' eye, I now find myself with reduced sight in both.  Is there anyone out there who could advise me about the gismos that could help me to continue to use the net -- and, of course, this site in particular -- more comfortably.

I've contacted the Blind Association in Geneva but they can't help me until I give them a chit ("attestation ") from my ophthamologiust.  I'll ask him for that at my next appointment, but I'd like to get things moving before that.

Many thanks in advance to anyone who can offer suggestions, etc.

 Hi,

I've asked a friend of mine if he knows of anything..he's the gadget guru on WRS so if there's anything out there that can make your situation easier, he'll know about it. :)

If you need help with anything else, getting around, grocery shopping etc. please don't hesitate to ask.
