Cost of ambulance (SAMU)

Hello!

Does anyone knows if it is normal in France to be charge 800euros for an ambulance?

For the story, i had no health insurance when the accident happened, i was not very bad injured (i was able to walk), it was Friday around 14h00, and i was taken to a hospital 3km away.

Am i the only one who think that 800euros is just too much?

Thanks,

Annie

I've never had to pay for one, but I'm not surprised by the cost. I might have estimated it even higher, e.g. 2000 Euros.

In Switzerland, all who are employed have accident insurance and the ambulance ride is covered. I know this because I was injured on the slopes in Valis, and took an ambulance ride to Geneva, with massive doses of pain killers, and I didn't pay a dime.

What was it, the freakin' air ambulance or something? Smile

150 euros would be more like it. I've done Briancon to Paris in an ambulance  and it was only 1000 euros.

Well, after spending the whole morning between the hospital i was taken, Allianz and La Gendarmerie, i learned that 800euros for an ambulance is not much at all. All of them told me that they were surprise it was only that. Normaly it is 1200-2000euros! So Edward you were right.

But i am really lucky because it will be paid by my accident insurance as mr.Jaz mentioned.

I took a deep breath!

Not much at all. I was taken in to hospital in Geneva few months ago when I got drugged in one of the English speaking nightclubs. And well they are expensive here in Geneva thank god my insurance company covered all.

My son had an accident on his bike, and was taken by the ambulance to Hopital de la Tour. I've received plenty of bills from the hospital, but nothing for the ambulance. I thought it was free.

When i had accident in swiss it was just 10 mins drive and billed around 800 francs, i was told insurance usually covers ambulance charges only for first 2 times per year. This is to make to sure only for serious cases! but believe everything is serious at the moment!

The fees for the SAMU in France are fixed. For a road accident the max they can charge is around 360 euros but they know the car insurers will pick up the bill. Normally for any other kind of accident it should be free - the bill being picked up by the state. I guess because they came over the border to El-Dorado they figured they would make some cash too.

I do not know what to think.....some people told me 800euros is fine, some others, especially french people told me it is exremely expensive. I guess everyone's opinion is based on their own experience.

Have you paid them yet? Did they give you any justification for the cost? I think people who think 800 euros is reasonable have spent too much time in CH. It is extortion.

If you sent such a bill to a French person in France you'd never get the money out of them.

No i haven't paid them yet. I received a phone call from them last week, in which they asked me why i haven't replied to the letter they had send asking me for my insurance to sent the bill (don't know what happened to that letter but i did not get anything). I was told that the cost was 800euros and that they were going to sent me the bill. Hopefully it will have all the details. Still waiting......
