It can't possibly be just the wheel bearing if they're quoting that much for the part (which should cost less than 100 CHF even with a high dealer mark-up).

What exactly is the part or parts they are planning to fit?  It would be worth clarifying with them.

Their quote of 150 for labour is quite reasonable, by the way.

It's also worth mentioning that my experience of motorbike (my own) and car (friends) servicing at main dealers around Geneva is that it's generally not all that expensive and the standard of work is high.

The part that is listed on the bill is " roulement et moyeu de roue" . Is this just the wheel bearing or is it something else also? I've looked online at auto parts websites, and I agree, the price for the bearing for my vehicle should not be over 100chf. The labor part is also not unreasonable. I'd be willing to accept a charge of around ~300chf, but this 850chf charge  just seems too high so I want to investigate a bit more.

By the way, I let them change the brakes when i had the summer tires put on (~600 chf and an oll change over the past month for 120chf) It wasn't until after they changed the tires that this noise started to occur...makes me wonder.....argh!

So that is a wheel bearing (cheap) and a wheel hub assembly (not cheap).  As far as I can tell, the bearing can't / shouldn't be replaced without also replacing the hub assembly on  an X-Trail.  It may be worth getting a second quote, but the price you have been given is now looking appropriate, if not exactly a bargain.
