I think the best place is La Givrine which can be reached by train (it stops literally on the tracks) The train takes app. 1 hour from Geneve via Nyon.
Went to col du Marchairuz (also in Jura) today and it looked very good. It is less accessible though.
I might be going this weekend too, but have no plans yet
Good luck

Oh I just checked out the snow report for la Givrine and so far it doesnt look good.
This is a good site to check out where to go skiing: http://snow.myswitzerland.com/snow_reports/St-Cergue%20-%20La%20Dôle/res806.html

Hi all, I am a total beginner and I don't have any equipment. I would like to come. I wonder if guys rent skis at the spot? and have you finalized where to go?

Hi everyone - in the end soem people at work have arranged to go to a place called 'La Vattay' (35k from Geneva) tomorrow so I will go with them: http://www.monts-jura.com/en/dossiers/dossier_28_la+vattay+-+valserine.html
Unfortunately there is no more space left in the two cars going. But if anyone else has their own car and wants to join, we are meeting at 9a.m. outside the car park at Jargonnaut, Eaux Vives 2000. If you are definitely coming, send me a message with your mobile number in it so I can text back if you can't find us. I imagine you can probably hire skis there if you need them - maybe check this website: http://www.vattay-sc.com/
Good luck!

hey,
eimear (or anyone else for that matter), would you be interested in x-country skiing this saturday? I would like to get up to la givrine on saturday around noon for a few hours of skiing. Never done it before and I think without lessons i will be really slow and tired quickly:-)

hmm...i would personally like to take the one leaving an hour later. But as I would need to rent skis I would want to make sure i get skis. so if i can still manage to get skis later then i would like to do it that way. otherwise i could maybe manage to get there for 9:36...thoughts?

hi to all, I live in St-Cergue but haven't been out X-country skiing yet - ever. I was out today for a walk and there is plenty of snow on all the trails from St-Cergue or La Givrine - it is possible to start at one or the other and go one way then get the train back.
I am interested in going tomorrow and also need to hire skis etc. There are two shops to get them in St-Cergue. I would be interested in starting earlier than noon as the weather looks to be better in the morning but I can always meet you at La Givrine later. My wife may also join and she is a beginner too!
u can contact me on 076 409 5938 if u r coming up

Hi Kristine
For me its no problem going an hour later - I do have skis, but it shouldnt take long to rent skis.
So just let me know when you want to go.

Yes, just give me a ring when you get in to st-cergue.
Tom
Sounds good.
Just thinking that maybe its better to meet in La Givrine - or Thomas you jump on the train - since the tracks start in La Givrine. Have a look at the map here: http://www.givrine.ch/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=16&Itemid=16
Train leaves Geneva from platform 4 at 10.36 and stops in St. Cergue 11.28 and in La Givrine 11.38
How does that sound
See you

Well - you do have places that rent out ski stuff in La Givrine.
But I am sure that they have a better selection in St. Cergue.
Lets consider things in the train tomorrow :-)
