Deep diving/wreck diving padi course

I know the title of this thread has opened it up to all kinds of replies.  But on a clean note...

Where is a good place to do a deep diving course and possible combine it with wreck diver, padi speciality?  I want an interesting location and dive site, not simply to dive at depth to get the qualification but to see cool things and if the town near by has a bit of life all the better.

Any advice?

thanks for the reply, and yes I know asia, the red sea etc, but specifically Im looking for deep dive sites, potentially wreck sites.  Xnobia in Cyprus being one idea I have.

Any sunken planes, wrecks, any fish life at depth I wouldnt see else where etc etc rather than general locations.

Hi Peaky,

My favourite dive of all time was the Thistlegorm near Sharm el Sheikh. It's about 30-40m deep. She was carrying supplies to the British army during WWII and aside from a large hole in the side, is pretty much intact. On board were train locomotives, trucks, motorbikes... you can swim around inside and see all the wares. Visibility was exceptional when I was there.

Looking forward to reading the other posts in this thread!

How much do you want to spend, how far are you willing to travel and what diving conditions are you after (cold, dark and challenging, or warm, blue and easy?).

Lots of wrecks in the Ligurian Sea (Gulf of Genoa), and plenty of PADI dive centers.

As was previously mentioned, you can't go wrong with the Thistlegorm, and there are numerous wrecks all around the Straits of Tiran (Sharm el Sheik).

Truk Lagoon (SE Asia) is a wreck diver's paradise, and expensive.

Gozo (Malta) has some excelent diving, with plenty of wrecks.

Scapa Flow in Scotland is a top diving destination for wrecks (cold, dark and challenging).

Eastern seaboard of the USA: lots of wrecks and hundreds of PADI dive centers (cold, dark and challenging).

The list is endless............ perhaps report what you're looking for and we can provide a specific recommendation.

Happy diving!

How far do you want to travel??

The best wreck dive I know about is the SS President Coolidge in Vanuatu. It's a long way from central Europe... :-/

The Coolidge was a troop carrier that went down in the 2WW. It's huge with multiple dive sites ranging from 35m down to about 60m. There is a lot to see and you can do penetration dives inside the ship as well. And the water is warm and clear :-)

Much recommended but as I said a long way!

Cheers

Deep dives + wreck dives + cavern dives (incredible lights & shadows) + inexpensive from Geneva + nice places to go around onland => Malta [not expectable of massive or big sea animals at all]

Check out, Dive Deep Blue, one of the very reliable dive centres in Malta that I dived with 3 times in the past. Excellent services.

www.divedeepblue.com

Ship wrecks, new and old, are scattered around, at different depths! Some of them are accessible from the shore. Some wrecks there, are also around 38-7X m deep. Like everywhere else, if you are interested in only deep dives (& wrecks) you must specify that preference of yours at the dive centre, though.
