Do you have O-Negative Blood?

A local friend of mine posted on Facebook today:

"Is there anyone out here in GVA area who has the blood type O- (it is very rare and a friend of a friend of mine's 6 month old daughter needs it). The hospital doesn't have enough. So if you can, please go to http://dondusang.hug-ge.ch/aspects_pratiques.html and find a location that you can donate to. Many thanks for those of you who are O- and do this."

Thanks in advance if you can help.

One other restriction to note is that is you can't donate blood if you were resident in the UK between 1980 and 1996 for a period of six months or more. Apparently the Swiss think if you were living there at that time, naturally you'll be riddled with CJD.

Also David, I believe it is not possible to donate blood for a specific person so it's a long shot anyway. The hospitals are in a better position to find it.

PS: I don't know my blood type Undecided

Rich,

Is that true?

I'm O negative.... and clearly have CJD issues if thats the case.

(That apart, I should probably detox before attempting to give blood)

Thanks so much for the responses, esp. Ritchie.  And also for adding some humo(u)r to it. Every thread should have a picture of a cow. I hereby declare.

If the hospital or the child’s parents haven’t already done so, they should contact the Blood Care Foundation which sends emergency supplies of blood all over the world.

Their website gives full details.

I know the organization and can vouch for its authenticity and efficiency.

In case anyone who was following this thread should be wondering, adequate supplies of blood were available and, as of last weekend, the news was that the baby girl in question was responding well to treatment.

R.

PS:  FYI, the organization to contact in emergency situations is the Blood Care Foundation which operates worldwide.
