Dodgy Apartment Advertisements

After some advice on what you would consider a dodgy request from people advertising apartments. I have had two in the past two days.

Both advertisers were not keen to show me the apartments, the first wanted me to pay money through airbnb without even seeing the apartment and below highlighted in yellow is an excerpt from the advertisement I saw today here on glocals;

Application to be email to xxxxxxx before 25 February 2015. The file must contain of
a) the last 3 records of salaries;
b) a certificate from the Office of the Prosecution and Bankruptcy dated less than a month (Office poursuite et Faillites)
c) photocopy of the identity card (residence permit for non-Swiss);
d) completed registration form of Régie Brolliet http://www.brolliet.ch/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Fiche-inscription-site-internet.pdf.

Only candidates who have sent a COMPLETE file will be contacted for the visit. Thank you in advance and looking forward to meeting you!

am I being paranoid? I feel that requesting the above information before being able to see the apartment sounds dodgy??

after some thoughts from others.

Cheers

The list is pretty standard for most of the rentals but NOT before you see it.

If you do not go and look and you send in the application and are selected - if you say NO after that (when seeing the apartment for ex) you will be billed for application charges (200-300 CHF!).

So - NO I would not apply for an appartment without seeing it in detais. Absolutely NO WAY.

Thank you for your feedback... the man advertising has refused to let me see the apartment without sending the forms and copies of personal information... definitely suspect! I have reported the listing to glocals admin.

You should also let the regie know. In the regie forms there is always the question have you seen the apartment? How are you supposed to answer that? Maybe the advertiser does not just want people visiting the apartment and they dont qualify for it. Though he is going about it the wrong way.

Another avenue could be to contact the Asloca Genève, they will not only investigate the person renting the apartment, but also advise you on your right's as a renter, and what the land lord can and cannot ask you for.
