Hi everyone,
A Canadian friend of mine lost his job and has been collecting unemployment since February. He has had a B permit (avec activité) for three consecutive years, and now he has to do the annual B permit renewal. He has heard from unconfirmed sources that he may not get it renewed, or would get an L permit instead. Has anyone else had this experience? He asked his chômage counselor, but he did not know the answer. Also, the information on the Swiss government website (www.admin.ch) does not cover this (unless we've looked in the wrong place). And, other forums talk about experiences in Zurich and Berne, but we are seeking information relevant to the canton of Geneva.
I would be grateful if anyone can share their experience.

As long as he is on Chommage and actively searching for work here they have to renew his permit (albeit not neccessarily for a full B) to cover him till his chommage stops...
Once the Chommage stops if he hasnt found employment by then its another story.
