English grammarrr lessonnnsss (for serious)

Howdy

Probably a completely odd question coming from a native English speaker but curious if there's any place in Geneva where I can take some English grammar courses.

I write for a living and, well, sometimes I feel like I've been scribbling for so long I've just forgotten all the basics.

Any refresher courses folks could point me to would be much appreciated!

Hi Lia,

I teach English and I would recommend the following course of action.

1. Diagnosis: Use Raymond Murphy's book ''English Grammar in Use'', which has an excellent test at the back of it, to identify exactly what parts of your grammar you need to work on.

2. Action: Now that you know exactly what your weak points are you can either (a) pay for a teacher or (b) continue using Murphy's book and work on your own. Be aware that Murphy's book comes in different levels but if you ask the staff in Payot to help you they will direct you to the level that is right for you. Personally I wouldn't dream of paying for grammar classes in any language, I prefer to work with books. But everyone is different and if you prefer teachers to books than go for it!

Good luck!

What does ‘writing for a living’ entail ?  Writing UN documents and reports, PR material – or chick lit ?  Do you have any editorial training ?

Coaching in the art of composition by, say, a local author might be stimulating and helpful.  There are quite a few anglophone writers in the area. OfftheShelf bookshop is a good source for names.

Best wishes, R.

Hi Ritchie!

Thanks for the suggestion but more looking for a course on the art of predicate nominatives rather than composition :)
