English speaking dermatologist

Hey All,

Do you know any english speaking dermatologist in Geneva? I looked at the guides and couldn't find any in Geneva with reviews... I speak French obviously but I prefer to deal with doctors etc in English - it's a comfort thing.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Best Regards,

Andy

Hi Andy,

Sure, I have an english speaking Dermotologist in Geneva.

He is called Doctor Thomas Gaudin.

Chemin Malombre, 5, 1206 Genève.

Tel: 022 735 8770.

If you ring the above number, they should give you a RDV no probs. I so get you need to have an English Speaking doctor.  When doing the whole doctor thing one needs all the 'comfort' one can get! ;-)

There you go. Stay healthy!

Siobhan. :-)

I think that most physicians included the dermatologists speak english (more or less) fluently, so this shouldn't be too much of a concern.

Simply ask the receptionist/assistant if the physician consults in english, which might be the difficult part of it. Reception and scheduling appointments might be tricky, too, but some french-speaking friend might help with this first step.

I would probably not select my dermatologists based on his language skills.

But, agreed, this is personal and certainly there are (other) medical specialities were language (and good communication) should be taken into consideration.

Cheers   Michael

Good points Michael, but just to reassure you I didnt select my doctor just because he spoke English, he did come reccommended to me ;-) But when you need to be precise and understand exactly what the diagnosis is etc so one can take responsibility for ones own health and not leave it totally in the hands of a doctor, who can be fallible, having clear communication so one can ask the right questions and be assure the doc is doing all he can is very important i agree.

And to assure both you and Andy, Dr Gaudin, is professional, extremely thorough and detail orientated, and also approachable inbetween appointments if one should have questions or further queries post examination. :-)))   As the daughter of someone who has skin cancer, I assure you the right doctor is of paramount importance to me as, having the same skin as my Dad, I am at risk and so need to have my skin regularly checked once or twice a year. And this dude is doing a fine job :-)

and yes, I have found that most doctors here speak good ish English, you are so right. Think most of their medical text books are written in English so they are obliged to learn good english as med students!!, as if they dont have enough to learn! :-)

Cheers all and stay healthy! :-)

Andy, I personally know a very good dermatologist at Geneva University Hospital. Her name is Sandrine Quenan. She is native French speaker, but her English is very good.

Hi Kateryna,

Sandrine speaks English very well. I think you should just call the hostipal (she works at HUG) and ask for an appointment. They should speak English as well.

FYI, she is on a vacation now and will be back at the end of this month.

good luck!

Hi Elina - seems an old thread though. Just wonder how the system works in the hospital in Geneva which i though is only for emergency. What about the price, is it more expensive than the specialist? thank you
