English speaking optician in GE

Hi,

I need new glasses and would like the optician to also check my eyes to see what lens strength I need. Can you recommend any English speaking optician in Geneva?

Many thanks!

Not Geneva, but we can recommend one in Thonon - is that too far away, or would you not be covered by insurance?

Patrizio Pisanello at Voirol

(72-74 rue de Carouge) speaks good English and has participated in surveys for Geneva’s Blind Association.

And the opticians at Lindegger (15 cours de Rive) speak excellent English.

However, the fees at these establishments are not what one could call cheap.

Try Barber Optique, Route de Florissant 50. Check your health insurance policy as you should be entitled every two or three years for test and new glasses to be reimbursed up to the amount stated in your policy (if the case).

Visilab on rue de marche/rue confederation is really good. Many speak french, service is excellent, top swiss quality optitian. No need to make an appointment, they have several optitian and helpful staff. I been using there service since 2005 and I always go back. I once went to Otpi2000 and hated the service.

Another really good optitian is PERRET in old town, family brother owned, father, grandfather , generations of optitians. They also have many other optical instruments like Teliscopes and mannifying glasses, and thermometers, and other glass works.

Cheepest is at Friedmans in Geneva, if your going for the Swiss Geneva enonomic route.

And finally, Yeah, you can go to france at Centre commercial Val thoiry, at half the price.

I am going for years now to Optic 2000 in Plainpalais/Carouge, Avenue Cardinal – Mermillod 4, just near the Arve.

The guy running it is so unbelievably friendly and competent, with a very good after-sales service.

His English is not so good but since he takes the time and is not rushed it has not been a problem for me. On top of that, they have a great collection of galsses, including some very funky ones.
