Exploring the wine country side of Geneva

Hello!

I love the wine country side and was wondering if anyone had suggestions for places to go? Esp with details on transportation, etc? I am not really familiar with transportation and which places requires a separate ticket apart from the tpg.

Thank you!

Jenny

Even I wanted to ask the same thing. There was a similar past activity posted by Hue D to do the same on bikes. Was not able to attend as I havent arrived in geneva yet.

I will be arriving in geneva on 31st and if you are still interested we can work up the details with help from forums and post it as an activity to get more people to join.

Cheers

If you're looking at the historical aspect of wine in the region, I'd recommend a visit to Domaine des Molards in Russin. I've been told its one of the oldest operating wineries in Geneva. (Est: 1354).

When you're done there, try the village of Dardagny, on the next hillside to the west. The Ramu family there is the local award winner.

Enjoy!

There's a cluster of wineries above Rolle; walkable area and perhaps 1 to 1.5km up the hill from the train station.  Two trains per hour from Cornavin and a 24 minute ride.

Don't miss the next vinathlon on 15 June (kind of triathlon with running, biking, etc + visit of wine cellars) but you have to enrol:

http://www.vinathon.ch/infos.php

It is is the Mandement (Satigny, Russin and other villages).

Besides it must be quite a laugh to see all the drunken cyclists Laughing

Dardagny has the largest concentration of wine makers inthe Geneva region (and closely together) and is easy to reach by bus (not sure which line). Go ona Saturday morning when the caves are open so you can taste and/or buy some wine.

I am travelling right now and can't remember the best places to visit, but Pins and Domaine du Centaure are quite good. Don't be shy - just walk into their caveor ring their door bell and ask if they are open for tasting.
