Dear all. I have been on the market for about a month and I have had similar experiences as many of you. An over priced housing market, with modest standards, crooks, villains and every now and then, good people as well. I just wanted to flag out something important: it is not legal, according to the Geneva rules for housing, nor according to Civil Code of Switzerland, for the tenants to ask you to buy their furniture as a condition to forward your papers to the Regie. In short, that is coercion and extortion, and it is a criminal act. You should not accept it as a condition. That said, one can always have a conversation about such, but it should not be a condition and it should be made very clear to the current tenants. Prices are going down (believe it or not) in Geneva, very gradually, because there are some fewer of us coming to town for work. And the way to push the prices further down is to keep things legal. Wishing you a happy weekend. Regards, Alfredo.
