Hi Fiona,

No local contacts, but just a word of encouragement on the best 2 grand I ever spent... Did mine 6 years ago in the UK and I can still cover one eye in the optometry chair and read the bottom line.... not the letters... where it was printed!!  Good luck!

Hi There, I had my operation done by Dr Tabatabay in Geneva and it all went well. A bit expensive but the follow-up was included and that was a real bonus as it helped reassure me. Best money spent ever :)

It cost me 5,000CHF. That included the preliminary appointment (free if you decide to get operated), the operation, and 2 or 3 follow-up appointnments afterwards + 1 a year after.

Got one done in the US 5 years ago.  Best thing I ever did for my self.  The whole thing cost me around 2200 dollars including all the pre and post checkups.  It is even cheaper these days.  Just get a cheap flight to New York and get it done there.  You can go on Thursday and be back at your desk Monday morning.

I've made an eye-check for the laser in Chene Bourg, 10 mins from Geneva center. www.visionlaser.ch

All analysis are free and they tell you if you can do the laser or there are some strong restrictions.

I did this check one year ago and had no strong objectives for the surgery.

After that I went to my home country, Ukraine, for the surgery. It costed less than CHF 1000 for both eyes. If someone is interested to travel to Ukraine to save costs - I can share the details of the clinic.

For those who are still unsure about the treatment - it is definitely worth doing! No matter where and on which cost - the surgery lasts 5 mins per eye, it is relatively painless and the eye repairs in 8 hours!

It is really an amazing feeling to see everything again! I did my surgery this april and still amazed with the results :) It is the best thing I've ever done for myself!

Sounds like lots of good experiences. Too bad the only personal opinion I got from someone was a negative one. It was like 10 years ago though so hopefully the tech is better these days. Still though, I'd go to the best place period regardless of cost. It's your eyes after all. Unless you have radar built in...  :)

I also suggest to go to Istanbul.

The name of the hospital is 'Dunyagoz". Their price fro bot eye changes from 700 Euro to 1200 euro and they are really the best. The prices are low due to currency difference.

ANd flight to Istanbul go and back at most 500CHF.

Worth to go and you can enjoy the best city in the world with your operated eyes:)

I advice you to call them and talk before..

Re: Eye Laser Clinic

Friends

I considered surgery several years ago. But I remembered a non-surgical method and investiagted. Here is the summary:

A type of contact lens that you put on at night corrects your vision over night. In the morning you take off the lenses and leave that at home. Your vision is good for at least 48 hours!... but you are supposed to wear the lenses before bedtime.

With this method you cna always have surgery later. But if you have surgery, you cannot use this method later.

Surgery is successful 94% of the time ... that means it is unsuccessful around 1 in 20 times! The contact lens specialists get a lot of custiomers who need special contact lenses to compensate for failed surgery.

On balnace if I didn't have the option of these overnight contact lenses I would still risk surgery and I was about to.

I researched overnight lenses (called "Ortho-K" lenses) ... found the best places and costs. I have been using them for two weeks.

Results? AMAZING.

Just like surgery, you cna have one eye adjusted for distance and one for reading or both adjusted for distance (in that case at some point in the future you will need reading glasses).

My left eye was adjusted for reading and the right one for distance. In the firts few days, my left eye has reached the target measure for reading! My right eye is now around 60% correct.

The best vision will be reached within about 3 months but already I am amazed, delighted and totally satisfied.

I found nowhere over the border in France within travelling distance to get Ortho-K lenses. Though I even reached out to big chains based in Paris ... they referred me to opticians in Geneva!

I found 4 opticians in Geneva who are highly experienced with Ortho-K. Pirces ranged from CHF 2,400 - CHF 900 which cover pretty much all pre & post fitting and checkups etc.

It so happened that the cheapest place is also a family practice, run by a father & son who have 'all the time in the world' for you. And they are based in the centre of Carouge, right by the tram 12 stop "Marche".

Mr Lamon Junior speaks excellent English. They both explain everything cleary and pateintly. They are never in a hurry to take your money. I heard from a friend that they insisted he thinks over the choice of glasses he wanted ... oh yeah, they also have the lowest prices for glasses as well as the best service.

Here are their contact details:

Paul Lamon Rue du Marché 4 1227 Carouge Tel: +41 22 342 37 20. Fax: +41 22 300 48 07. E-mail : plamon@optique-lamon.ch

www.optique-lamon.ch

By the way, yoru optician will explain this to you ... but 'some' who opt for surgery, have very poor vision at night and may need special glasses because the surgery corretcs more of the centre of your eye ... with darkness, your pupil opens up to take in more light and will therefore 'see' thru the sides of your cornea which has less correction or no correction.

I am not trying to put you off surgery. Many of my friends have done it and are very happy and I would too ... just do consdier this cheaper, more natural and less intrusive method before you make up your mind. And remember you can always go for surgery later, if you wish.

All I can say is thanks to science and technology, every day is sooo more of pleasure than it ever was. Free from glasses at last (after 30 years) Laughing

Let me know if you have any questions and good luck whatever you do
