Hi, I’d like the forum’s advice on our setup for social insurance (Health Insurance) in either France or Switzerland.
The basics
- We are a family of four, living in Pays-de-Gex
- Children go to school in France, my wife works in Geneva (G-permit)
- I work in Zurich during the week since 2011 with a registered address (B-permit, next year probably C-permit)
- Up to 2014 the health insurance for family was covered by my wife’s company. I was able to waive CH-insurance as my wife insurance provided equal services.
- From 2015 on we are paying the 6%, soon 8%, French tax-addon and are covered by the French social insurance – as well as a supplementary insurance (wife company paid)
Questions / topics
- My situation as permit B holder - from mid 2016 on potentially permit C holder -
I should update the Swiss authorities on my changed health coverage – and would need a Swiss insurance. Could I opt out of the French Health insurance? Or would I then pay insurances in both countries?
- We understand that if we would move to Switzerland and live there, we
Would terminate the French Social insurance system?
We could still visit our French house (on the weekend?, how often?, what is considered reasonable for French authorities?) or would we need to let it?
The children could still visit the French school (if approved by the school)?
- After a certain time the family may “move back to France” (and give up the Swiss address)
then we could decide if to keep the Swiss health insurance or must we reconnect to the French system
This step can be done after 6 month with address in Switzerland - or only after a year?
