We are moving to Geneva this summer and have a one year old and four year old. What are some must haves that you can suggest that I should bring from the states. Any insight would be great- we pack our container soon so just want to know some ideas on what little kids might need there that they don't necessarily sell- or if they do- for a higher price. thanks!

Not sure what would classify as critical in your situation, there are a number of British/American food stores/sites around here for the Hershey cravings etc. For toys/furniture etc, Ikea is in Meyrin and its pretty much the same stock as US/Middle East etc. Check out http://www.lifeingeneva.com/#!daily-life/c1zy9 I have some info there about where to get what. Might help :-)
And worse case scenario I am sure you can convince some new Friends to smuggle in Tasters Choice by airplane with 3 daily flights to US direct from GVA.
Good Luck with the packing!

Well, for kids of the age of yours it's not relevant, but some of my american friends often bring from US sports equipment, like uniforms, staff for baseball etc. Then you may bring books for kids:)

bring vitamins, creams, sunblock, ibuprofen, dypers... everything is 3 times the price here... clothes and shoes for the next steps... (yesterday went to a store to buy ALL STAR running shoes.... for a 6 y.o. and they cost CHF 70 !!!) . Go to COTSCO and load up !

Cookbooks. Pretty much everything you'll need is available, you'll have to get used to the prices but good recipes with familiar dishes can be comforting during the first few months in a new country with a different language.

Bring whatever you can. Nearly anything here is much more expensive than in the US and worth the extra money you'll spend to get more volume in the container.

They do not have pharmaceuticals geared towards kids here. I suggest you bring kids toothpaste and flossers as well as meltable tabs for tylenol and advil. Kids organic products like shampoo or creams are also hard to find. Otherwise you can find lots of things here in Geneva or across the border in France but of course, for at a greater cost.

Be careful if you intend to bring toddler car seats or something like that, as they must be EU certified to be used here. Otherwise, you risk a fine or even worse problems in case of accident.
