What is your favorite bar in (or close to) downtown Geneva? Why?
Note that question #2 is just as important to me as #1, so please answer both!

Hi Cecile, it's a very broad question, if you tell us what you are looking for we can recommend some.

Hello! Quite frankly, I am not looking for specific recommendations. My preferences typically vary depending on my mood, need for a special ambiance or type of music, and the people I am with... I am just trying to understand where people tend to go around here and how they select their evening destination(s).

Wine bars;
Rouge et Blanc - Coz its near where I work, they have good wine and tapas.
Riverside cafe- Good music, trendy ambiance, food as well.
Soleille Rouge - Good wine.
Pubs /Beer:
Clubhouse - freindly, good beer and food and live music at weekends. Sports events
Key and Eagle - Good pizzas with abnormal toppings, beer pumps at tables,
Mulligans, - Irish bar
Lady Godiva - English trendy pub and sports bar. Good food, lots of screeens for sports
.
There are less frequented bars by me, which I have enjoyed, so my list isnt the "top", but are the ones Im happy going to on a regular basis.

Thank you very much, Charlie!
Re: the Key and Eagle, I checked out their Website and read that "the Key and Eagle is the perfect place to unwind with after work drinks in an urbane setting" (sic). It is nice to know they will be very polite about their "abnormal toppings".
Thank you very much, Charlie!

I like Mr. Pickwicks because it is one of the rare bars that has a happy hour drinks half off. Anyone know of others, i would like to know and take advantage of this.

What a shark!
My number one :
Lola Bar, 7 rue de Richemont.
The atmosphere is really cool and cozy, it's cheap, there is space to stand up, the name is nice, it's usually not crowded and if you're hungry, you can order food from the restaurant next door. I organized several activities there and it's usually quite cool.
I like Boulevard du Vin too, for the nice atmosphere, the excellent wines and food, but the bill becomes easyly high and when it's crowded, it's a bit too noisy for my taste
In another style, Remor place du Cirque, is great - unique parisian/academic atmosphere, excellent ice-creams, nice salads. You sometimes feel that the guy next table could be Albert Camus
Al Manzil, 13, rue de Monthoux, a Morrocan café-restaurant where you can sit on cushions to sip your mint-tea. Best in the afternoons, at night, th musci can be noisy

Thank you very much, Bustan! I shall try Lola (for drinks) and Remor (for ice cream) soon... A nice thé à la menthe at Al Manzil sounds like a good idea, too!
Dave -- Next time you are at Mr. Pickwick, have a burger with your happy hour beers! I love their Big Pub Burger... Yummy buns + juicy flavorful meat + melted cheese + sautéed mushrooms + bacon = BLISS!

Thank you, Matisse! I saw the photos posted by Café Marius on Facebook. The place seems funky and welcoming, and the food looks delightful!

Yvette de Marseille? Rue Henri-Blanvalet 13?
Yvette de Marseille? Rue Henri-Blanvalet 13?
At least you know the drinks there are strong... ;)
I pop into Perk - avenue du Mail to meet up for a couple of beers.
Comments on the others Remor - service sometimes slow so not good for a quick beer
Key and Eagle - doesn't have a single beer I like.
If I go to an international pub then it is Pickwicks
Clemence in the old town in winter when there are fewer people

Yvette de Marseille is nice but nothing fantastic, better go to L'atelier cocktail wich is rue Blanvalet 13. It s the same owner than my Apothicaire bar in Plainpalais, same cocktail card, same quality same price.I prefer Apothicaire, cause it s cosier...

Any jazz clubs? Cosy cocktail clubs? Think classic/vintage cocktail lounge, dim lights, good music, jovial people, etc.

Clubhouse has good live music on Fridays, and Jovial people, dim lights too... plus they'll serve you a cocktail if you ask for it. Thats most boxes ticked...
Otherwise you can try the Leopard room underneath the D'Angleterre Hotel.. which tries to fit most of what youre after... but to be honest that place is massively over priced, and mostly full of working girls.

You beat me to it, I was going to say Leopard Room. If you're going with friends it's a really good place.

Thank you very much, Charlie! I am not really into overpriced drinks or working girls, so perhaps I will pass on the Leopard Room... The Clubhouse is in the Pâquis area, isn't it? I have heard about their Sunday brunch, but someone described that place as a sports bar (with "beer o'clock" specials)...
I need to try L'Atelier and L'Apothicaire. The cocktails look delicious. On the other hand, based on the pictures I have seen online, the ambiance seems to be far from what I am looking for. Still, I shall give them a try... If the drinks are good, I can just picture myself somewhere else!

Le Verre à Monique looks interesting! Retro, maybe art deco? I'll give it a try, too... But first, Buddha Bar! See you there!
