Favorite foods you buy in a grocery store/boulangerie

Hi everyone!

Living here in Geneva for 3 months, I am curious what are the types/brands of food that most of the people really enjoy eating/Snacking on?

Where do you usually shop? Coop, Migros or in France?

Any good suggestions will be much appreciated!Smile

So far the best yoghurt that I have tried here is the "YOGOS" brand. figues and amande flavors are my favorite. Most of the Migros yoghurt are good too!

I'm nervous to share this, as sometimes when you like something so much, you don't want others to find out in case it means none left of the shelves, or higher prices...

One of my favourite snacks I've found here, is the Coop (own brand) dried mangoes. You'll find them in the standard green coloured bags in the dried fruit section near the flour and patisserie items at the Bel-Air coop. The front cover art actually looks like more like a sliced peach, so check for the word mango.

They are reasonably priced and are all natural, and great tasting, I can't get enough.  I've tried getting dried mangoes at various Asian stores (eg, imported from Phillipines or Thailand) but i find they are always crystalized with added sugar.. bleh.. too sweet.

Manor also sell dried mango, but at a HUGE premium price, for a very small amount, and in my opinion, ( i only tried once) , not anywhere near as nice as the Coop range.

I'm also loving the Tropicana Seasonals White Peach and Cherry juice limited edition thats out now. Mix it with Soda water and its very refreshing for summer!

Regarding where do i shop, when i first move to Switzerland, in Lausanne, I used to shop at the Swiss/French Casino, and Denner, because of the prices being cheaper to Coop or Migros. Since moving to Geneva, we switched to Coop because of location, it was just closer, and because it had a larger range of brand selection (yes including foreign brands that i can't live without) than at Migros where there seems to be more Migros Own-brand items.

I think the sign that I have finally adjusted to the grocery prices here, after 2-3 years of shell-shock.. is that I now more and more supplement my Coop standard grocery shop with a regular booster at Manor, as I enjoy the more boutique variety options available, of course, these all come at a premium..

Hi there, for a foreigner, Coop is the most expensive one, on average i find things more expensive there. For a medium earner or students, Migros is the best. Denner and Aldi are the best in terms of price but they don't have everything. There are local markets in the centre too. In Switerland, there are good websites where you can search things- anibis, ricardo, tutti etc. Bookmark them. You can sell things too. Here are the links:

Wrong way of thinking: if only a handfull of people buy the product, there is a good chance it will be discontinued.

Your right I'm sure, except last 2 times I checked,  I find where the mango bags should be, instead it is sold out, whilst the other fruit types are fully stocked :)

Probably just a cooincidence of timing, or everyone else is discovering how good it is :)

Good point.  EVERYONE needs to go to Migros and buy Lo-carb Monster Energy drink immediately.  That stuff has been really hard to find until just 1-2 weeks ago.
