Surely if it is a puncture it can be repaired rather than replacing the tube.  Puncutre repair kit, announce whereabouts you live an maybe a glocals guy will fix it. 

It could just be that bike shops just replace tubes today rather than repair

The last bike shop had told me they needed a new tube for it. I will check on the repair kit from DIY shops though I nothing in fixing punctures .
