Flat Insurance in Geneva - any recommendations, dos or dont's ?

hello all

I am currently with Allianz to change review / change my contract for the flat insurance. Any recommendations, dos or dont's if i can negotiate?

How much normally approximately to pay every year? I only need mandatory ones plus the loss / stolen, that's all. I also do not need high value insurance for the furniture etc...

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Jessica

I have AXA Winterthur. You can get a quote estimate online according to what you want to be covered and what your household contents are. It was a good estimate of how much youll pay. I pay 85chf/year for my flat insurance (which covers theft), plus another 85chf/year for personal liability insurance (which was optional).

I am also looking into flat insurance but the prices I hve been quoted are far higher i.e. Chf 350 francs with Mobiliere!!! I only have a 4 piece flat so am amazed that John H is only paying Chf 260 for full cover. John, could you give me the name of your broker please? Thank you.

I should have added .. I'm not in Geneva but in a nice little village near Nyon.. Probably makes all the difference!

Anyway, the broker I used for health, car, liability, and house insurance is Symphony Group, they have a little office in CheneBourg area. I don't know if they only do corporate stuff though, they were introduced via my employer. But all explained well and in english.

I don't have the individual contact right now but i could likely dig it out if required.

I went threw an insurance broker for all my insurance, including

Life insurance, home insurance (assurance batiment) , responsibility insurance (RC et AC), chalet insurance, car insurance, dogs insurance, Motor bike and scooter insurance.

I found that combining the insurances at one company , i got an excellent 20% discount compared to when I had them separately from other companies.

I went with Generali, never had problems until this year where my car had damage from the Grele /Hail and had to go to there expert for quotation.

Still just for the RC Generali was good price compared to the top 5 providers.

Good luck and if you like my contact at Generali, I can send to you be return private message. Just send me a note.

I would be careful with whichever insurance you go with!  The guy who sells you the policy is generally charming and the one who is responsible for reimbursements is a tough negotiator and in my case totally unprincipled. I was with Helvetia for house insurance for many years.  My neighbour caused a fire in the building and my flat underneath his was damaged .. mostly through all the water chucked on the building.  Everyone had to move out of the building and find their own alternative accommodation while they renovated the building.  Helvetia claimed I was under-insured even though a representative had recently visited me to renew the contract.  If they can claim you are under-insured they only have to reimburse you a minimal amount.  After meetings with lawyers, and proving that my premium was adequate for the contents of the apartment, Helvetia agreed to pay a little more (but not to cover our losses) instead directing us to Generali who was the company of the guy who started the fire.  The lawyer was in correspondence with Generali for a long time and Generali listed what it would cover (but none of the expensive losses). Then after months of correspondence, Generali suddenly wrote to the lawyer and said they didnt need to give us a penny (franc in this case) as the responsible neighbour had left the country directly after the fire (so why were we corresponding for such a long time arguing what they would and would not reimburse).  Beats me and I feel thoroughly disgusted with both companies for taking advantage of a client who was not responsible for what happened and was in a terrible situation having lost their home.  I'm with Zurich now but I havent made any claims so would not be able to recommend them.  Good luck and just make sure you dont need to claim!

Dear Rachel - how did you get 85chf, I got the quotation from AXA as well with the very basic items, still it is more than 100chf......

Jessica, Well I suppose it depends on what you choose for options. My place is a studio, singleperson, content value of $20,000, and pay a higher deductible. Perhaps this is the "lower end" of the rates. Unfortunate that you`re still quoted over 100chf. Good luck!

Hi Jessica,

I'm not looking for a home insurance, what did you finally settle for? Which insurance company? Please advice.  Thank you.
