Foreign driving license exchange

Hi all,

I recently got to know that foreigners planning to stay longer that a year in Switzerland have to exchange their foreign driving license with a Swiss one within 12 months after entering the Swiss territory.

I've been here 2 years and I haven't done anything. I looked up on the web and couldn't find anything stating what happens if the exchange does not take place within the 12 months.

Has anyone got any experience with this?

Thanks!

Yannick

Hey Rena,

Thanks! Got all I needed from there http://www.glocals.com/forums/general/How-to-change-your-driving-license--A-complete-guide-66582.htm#msg_80769.

According to some people, it should still be possible... Happy days! I'll let you know when I'll have the official answer.

Cheers,
Yannick

Hey,

I finally got my Swiss driving license : I went to the office cantonal, gave all the papers needed and went back with my brand new driving license.

The fact that I've been here for more than 2 years did not bother anybody.
Great stuff!

I'm over 2 years as well.  What did you get at the office cantonal?  Its not possible to just go to the Service des automobiles directly?

Hi there,

We changed ours after three years and did not ave to do a test. We changed from a uk licence so in addition to the eye test we needed a medical certificate for the c1 licences (small truck) and to convert a minibus licence you also need a criminal record check done (you can get this from the post office).
