Found dog
Last night while on our way out for the night, we came across this little dog running around in the Chene Bourg/Crete area. We found out that we could take her to a 24-hour vet place but all they could do was to scan her for her chip and call her owners if that worked. If not, we were supposed to figure out what to do with her. Oh yes, she has no tags. Looks like they fell off her collar.

Needless to say our evening out was shot. We brought her home and will take her to the vet tomorrow to be scanned. She was very stressed already and I didn't want to subject her to any more tonight.

My question is, does anyone know of any dog shelters in the area, preferably close to where we found her. Help!

Gosh, I thought the shelters in this area would be nice since they seem to love dogs so much. If she is not chipped and/or her owners don't want her, I already have one volunteer ready to adopt her. She is a really sweet dog and very loving. If the situation is not right, we will keep her or try and adopt her out to a good home. Poor baby!

Ok, here's are pictures of the found dog. She had no tags and I took her to be scanned and she has no chip either. Why do people do this? She's adorable. Can someone help me with the correct wording for a Lost Dog poster in French?

Also, if no one claims her I'd like to re-home her to a good home. So email me. I'll keep her for a week and then, if she is unclaimed we can adopt her out. Check her out, she's a cutie, with a very friendly, sweet and loving personality.

This is what I'd like to say:

FOUND DOG

Black and brown, small dog found near Hopital des Trois-Chene, around Pont du Bochet. No tags, no microchip. Very sweet and friendly. If she is yours please call

Hi, I think you can post your ad on this site:

http://www.stmz.ch/fr/?gclid=CK6D87yCxZYCFQLsXgodGx4Mwg

I would probably not publish the picture of the dog yet, just to make sure that no one would falsly claim its his dog

The text in french could be something like :

CHIEN TROUVé

Femelle, tres jeune, noir et marron.

Trouvé près de l' Hopital des Trois-Chene, Pont du Bochet. Pas d'identifiants.

Si Elle est à vous , veuillez m'appeller sur ... (Phone nr)

Hope this helps

Thanks Tony. This is very helpful. Which section in that site do I put the ad under? I couldn't figure it out. I am headed out to put posters in my area.

Good idea not to put a pic.

No tag = sans médaille

appeller => appeler

Trouvé:

Petite chienne, pelage noir et brun, très jeune, affectueuse, possédant un collier sans médaille, zone Hôpital des Trois-Chênes / Pont du Bochet.

Son/sa propriétaire peut me contacter au ...

Jawahara,

Good luck with the posters. I suggest you put them up at the main intersections in the area. My guess is she belongs to a little old lady who is probably frantic by now. Given the age of the dog (I would guess by the white beard that she is 5+) she did not have to be chipped at the time. Now it is an obligation.

One thing to change in Tony's text is replace "très jeune" by "petite".

Keep our fingers crossed.

If you have no luck, contact them. It's their job to find the owner of a lost dog:

Fourrière

I strongly disagree about the "SPA" (Société pour la Protection des Animaux) in Geneva is a dismal place. They do their best to take in all those animals that owners have abandoned. Last year alone in Geneva, 1000 cats and 605 dogs were abandoned by their owners. SPA does not receive any state subsidy and receive funding from donors. If anyone wants to make the animal shelter less dismal, then be a member and donor. I have been contributing to the SGPA for years and I think they do a superb job with the limited resources available. SGPA's website is at http://www.sgpa.ch/ They don't charge for taking in lost or abandoned animals.

Thanks for all the messages guys. I will check out the SPGA sometime and see if I can volunteer and/or donate. I don't think I'll take this little one there. I will definitely contact fourriere cantonal as well. There is a slight possibility she might have wandered over from France since we live very close to the border (Ville Grand) and Ambilly. Anyone have any ideas about how I can go about trying to find the owner from there. Anyway, tomorrow I will take her to my dog's vet, and perhaps take flyers to all the vet offices in the hope that someone recognizes her.

Update: Juliet has gone home. The posters helped tremendously. Thanks for the help with the wording all of you. She is obviously a loved and pampered pet and belongs to a little boy and his parents. I think they are getting her chipped now.

You are leaving us with only half the story:w00t:

Where do the owners live relative to where you found the dog?

So they saw the posters and gave you a call?

How did she get away?

What about the dog tags?

How old is the dog? (my guess was about 5 yrs old)

At least now they will chip the dog properly so the next time she can be returned with less effort.

Sorry for leaving you hanging. Actually, the story is here on my blog...jawahara.blogspot.com. It's rather long and complicated and I don't want to write the whole thing here. I did tell them to chip her. At least I think I did. My French sucks. Maybe they heard I should feed her some chips and just nodded politely since I'd reunited them with their dog. Who knows?
