French Lessons and Other Advice (Update Requested)
Dear all,

I searched the forums for advice and opinions on French Lessons and for information related to public libraries with English language books section.  The postings date back to 2007 so I am re-posting to see if any Glocal member can provide any additional information.

1.  Recommendations for Intensive French Lessons:  Ecole Club Migros is booked so I would appreciate any recommendations for other intensive French courses.  Prior posts have suggested (1) Ifage.ch, (2) Ecole du Monde, Paquis, and (3) Inlingua.  I've also received information regarding Ecole de Langue Francaise (ELFI), but this would be private lessons and, as a result, considerably more expensive.  Please let me know if you've had good or bad experiences with any of the following.

2.  Public Libraries with English Language Selection:  Prior postings have identified the English Library (subscription based and not public per se), which I've visited, and a public library in Rue de Confederation, although the post did not provide a specific name of the library.  I could not find the latter.  I've also visited the local library in Paquis and did not find an English language selection.

I would like to check out books for myself and children for entertainment, thus no need for scholarly texts, etc.  Any suggestions to a public library would be greatly appreciated.

3.  Velobris bicycles:  Finally, can anyone recommend a bicycle shop that sells Velobris bicycles?  We've been to Hot Point in Paquis, another bike shop in the Planpalais region, and even contacted the Swiss distributor, although we have not received a response from the distributor.  Would like to buy my wife a Velobris for her birthday.

Many thanks for any help you can provide.

Cheers, MXD

Re: French Lessons and Other Advice (Update Requested)
Post 1
As if my post weren't long enough, I should add that French lessons through Ifage would be difficult to manage because of the duration of the course.  Nonetheless, if Glocal members have had very good experience with Ifage and not such good experiences with the other courses, I would be willing to consider taking the course.

I also checked Berlitz and found the pricing to be very high in comparison to other classes.

Thank you again.  MXD

Hi, did you mean this elfi - http://www.elfi-geneve.com/?

They offer intensive courses in group for 650 CHF per month, which is compared to 1000CHF per month and the same amount of lessons in Ifage makes a big difference to me.

hello MXD:  I am coming to geneva in october, to take a month's "plonger" (immersion course) in french.  I will be attending francais pour tous, their contact info. is

web:  http://www.francaispourtous.ch/doc/livre.php?lang=fr&chap=1&page=0

address:  Genève - 18, rue Général-Dufour
+41 (0)22 320 03 1

they are close to the university of geneva, right downtown.

I dont know if they are any good, i was told about them by an associate in geneva.  i am taking a minigroup course starting in an intermediate level. it meets 4 mornings a week for 3 hours a day, the cost is 800 CHF for a month (consisting of 4 weeks). a minigroup is suppose to be 6 persons. I looked at other links and this one seemed the most reasonable for the cost/ time given.

i hope that helps, when i start there next month i'll check this post again and if you are around i will tell you how it is going.

A good way to learn french (and to meet the natives) is to put up a free petit announce card up your local coop and/or migros asking for an exchange.
