Has anyone heard of the school ELFI? I am moving to Geneva to take intensive French language classes and am considering the following schools ELFI, IFAGE, Inlingua and Active(4xfaster).
If anyone has any experience at these schools please let me know.
Many thanks,
Ellie

Hi Ellie,
Which school did you end up choosing? I'm currently considering several of the same schools but would love to hear from someone who's actually attended. Thanks!

I attended International House. I have studied French in Geneva and Spanish in Spain with International House and would highly recommend it. It is expensive, but most definitely worth it.
Good luck!

Nasra is right. IH is a really good school, but if you have time I can also recommend École du Monde.

Thanks for all the replies everyone, this is so helpful. I am considering International House, especially with these positive references, but it is true that it's twice as expensive as some of the others I'm thinking about. As I'm looking for something intensive though, Mon-Fri, it looks like a good option. Has anyone attended ELFI Geneva?
I've also requested more info from Ifage, Inligua Geneva, S&L Supercomm and Ecole BER so any other experience with those would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!!

Hi, wondering if you went to ELFI a geneva after all? I am coming within 1 wk. I am comparing the course between ELFI and Migros! Hope to have your feedback before my decision, many thanks!

Hi,
I am attending the IFAGE intensive. Pretty good, much better than those I had at Migros.
The teacher is profficient and explains the gramma as well which I value as she gives a good understanding of the language.
Good luck,
E.

I'm at ELFI, started one week ago and I really like it. I attend 3hrs a day, 5 days a week. I'm already starting to understand so much more. I'm at ELFI 'cause a friend recommended it, so I don't know about the other schools though.

Hi
I have been teaching French for the last 20 years, am a French native, have grown up in NYC, thus am perfectly bilingual.
I tailor my classes to your needs: first (short) lesson is free and is to evaluate your level and show you my method based on internet exercises, paper book exercises, reading, speaking and writing. I mix lots of different technics according to level and needs and my teaching evolves with the student's progress.
I can teach anywhere in Geneva from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., from Monday to Friday, provided we can access internet or Wifi. Lunch break slots are quite busy.
Currently teaching one on ones at a permanent foreign Mission in Geneva. On-going multi private lessons as well. Numerous references available upon request.

Hope this appeals to you :)

Hay,
Do you still offer private tutorials in French? I've read several reviews and would be interested in taking French lessons. Do you have a website?

Ecole du Monde is pretty good. They have courses every day (monday - friday) from 9 to 12 and from 14-17, so you can choose time. Intensive, but there is no rush, feels like you are really working.
People there are little bit strange, but generally I like it ;-)))))

For what it's worth - I learned basic French in highschool a long time ago. Now we are living in Geneva for a year, and have a second home in France, improving our command of French has become a priority. So I enrolled in a Bell language school class sponsored by my employer (once a week, an hour and a half plus homework, for about 6 months total). I also started reading French newspapers and magazines, watching French television, listening to French radio and just speaking French with Francophone colleagues.
I believe that, in the end, I will learn most from the daily interaction with the language, much more so than from the structured classes (which tend to focus on grammar).
In that respect, all of Geneva is one giant language school. Question is, will you actually start using French on a regular basis? If not, the learnings in structured schools and classes probably won't have the maximum impact. For me, I have concluded I need to learn the language by doing rather than studying.

Honestly, im meaning of learning french, even canton Vaud and Valais are much better than Geneva. There are plenty of people there who love to say "doesn't matter, I know english, that's enough". For example, if you go out, most of people will speak JUST english
In my opinion, it's just useless. One of the biggest pleasures in new countries, it's to learn smth new. Language, culture, etc.
And it's another training for brains ^_^

Hi, which school did you end up choosing...I am in the process of choosing a course at the moment, and have just contacted the universitie populaire de geneve, IFAGE, Elfi, and ASC Int House. I have also heard from someone who has been there that IFAGE is good, but nothing about Elfi. Thanks, Sam

There is a great guide to choosing a language school that you can pick up called Language School Secrets. Its free and tells you how to choose a quality school, how to get discount deals and what questions to ask to ensure that it is the right school for you.

I did a 3 month intensive french course last summer at ASC International House.
The classes run from 8.30 / 9 am till 12.00/ 12.30. Its spoken, written, and reading, plus you get homework every day which can take upto an hour depending on your confidence, and whether or not you cheat.
They also have a computer room, and a online service, which is available for revision, tests etc for the 3 months duration of the course plus 2 months after.
Class size ranges from 3 to 4 to upto 8 max.
My level went from A1 to B1/B2 in those 3 months, and I can reccomend it.

I would recomend Migros Ecole, the teachers are all highly qualified and to be honest they have the best prices in Geneva, the classes are set up in small large and 1 on 1, they have all levels, I know for a fact that alot of the teachers there also teach French at the University.
