Friend in need

I called in  on a friend who was on the cusp on ending it all.  Staying with him now, but I really don't know what to do.

He has agreed to seek some help, but after a preliminary search, my google-fu has failed me.

So what I need is:

An english speaking emergency service where anonymity is paramount.

Not Samaritans or such services, this issue seems a little more urgent.

Any help or assistance is appreciated.  Pm me if you prefer.

Thanks

Hi there,

you and your friend have a couple of options:

-Urgences- where theres a psych department called UAUP- where most people in a suicidaire crisis seek help.

-CAPPI- its sectored throughout Geneva with 4 in total. I happen to work in one so would be able to provide you info via PM or phone.

-Private psychiatrists throughout GE

I mentioned all three in decreasing order of urgency. If youre staying the night wwith a friend you should take him to the emergenecy hospital. All three options mentioned are professionals  sworn to medical secrecy.

Hope this helps, dont hesitate to write me a pm

You need to go to HUG, there is an emergency phychiatric team for this there.

When someone is suicidical, it is not a solution that you stay with him/her. It is a serious medical condition. Hopefully they will be able to help not only temporarily but also on the long run.

No need to be ashamed. No-one is judging. There are difficult periods in life and sometimes this is the answer the brain produces.

They will definitely speak English and they will keep your friend in probably for a 24 hours surveillance.

Needless to say that insurance will cover it and that indeed there is medical secrecy. He will get a certificate from his / her GP simply stating the standard medical leave data if she/he will have to stay on sick leave.

Nothing will be sent to work. He does not need to disclose anything. Insurance co will be in touch with GP if long term medical leave is needed.

Not the end of the world but probably for him/her it feels like that. Whatever the cause is, get help asap instead of being afraid /ashamed of asking for help. That is the first step on the way back to be able to handle the issues.
