Furniture retailers-not ikea!

We (finally) secured our apmt yesterday after nearly 3 months of trying! moving in 1st of feb....

Was wondering if anyone has any recommendations of where to buy furniture (mainly bed and sofa) that is NOT ikea! We are staying in Geneva permanently and are looking for items that are of a slightly better quality... Somewhere in France that delivers to Geneva etc. etc.

Thanks very much! Greg

We can highly recommend: Peeter Tarmet, from Meubles Tarmet in rue de Lausanne.

This shop is selling great beds and usually offer big discounts (obviously from Swiss prices but I guess it is worth to have a look).

If you plan to buy replicas of iconic furniture from the UK, hurry up!

New copyright laws in the UK have come into effect, banning replicas of some of the most-copied icons of 20th century furniture design – including pieces by Arne Jacobsen, and Charles and Ray Eames.

As of 28 July 2016, dealers cannot make or import new furniture copies. After a transitional period of six months, they will no longer be able to sell them either.

The change brings the UK – once derided as "a Trojan Horse for the importation of copies into Europe" – into line with the rest of the EU, which has longer-lasting copyright protections.

While the future of the laws may be uncertain following June's Brexit vote, for the time being UK copyright protections for industrial design have been extended. They've changed from 25 years after an item is first marketed to 70 years from the death of the creator.

If you take that option, I strongly recommend to avoid Retrofirnish.com.

Many clients are very unhappy with them. On their website, they say that items are immediatly available. You order those items, and then they say there is a delay of several weeks, because they have to manufacture them. And often, clients don't receive their items. My mum lost more than 200€ with them...

If you are fine with second hand furniture, try Emmaus in Carouge. You can find really great stuff.

I may be late to reply, but I made a list of places to shop for online furniture here in Switzerland. It took me months to figure out great places to shop so I thought I'd try to make it easier for others.

If you have other stores that you shop at that aren't on the list, let me know - I'd love to add them!
