Geneva restaurants on the lake

Hi,

Since moving to Geneva in March, I have really struggled to find nice restaurants on the lake. (especially the 'Old Town' side i.e. down from the Jet d'Eau.)

In Luzern, where I just moved from, there were a number of really nice, buzzy and fairly reasonably priced restaurants with terraces on the lake. So far, from what I can tell, here there are either the big hotels (not my cup of tea) or more snack bar type places.

Am I missing something? Any ideas?

Thanks

Hello,

You have to go a bit further out of town to get some nice restaurants by the lake. One I would recommend is le petit lac in corsier. You can get the bus E from rive to a stop which is 5 mins walk from the restaurant. I was there on tuesday evening...very nice fillet de perche

Thanks Gareth - will definitely try this out. There also seem to be a few nice ones towards Nyon.

Shame there isn't anything more in the centre - I feel so much more could be made of the lakeside in the centre....

If I was a Geneva town planner............................!!

You're right that there aren't any great restaurants/terraces at the lake in the center of Geneva, at least that I know of. Lacustre (near the Pont du Mont Blanc) is a decent Italian but overpriced.

The trick is to go a bit further away. As Gareth said you need to go a bit further away. Personally I like Les Flots Bleus in Yvoire (France, ~20km), especially their terrace in summer. I also went to Creux de Genthod (~8km, toward Nyon)  for lunch a few weeks back and quite enjoyed it. If you have the money or a special occasion, the terrace at Parc des Eaux-Vives (~3km) has a great view.

Two other good ones, especially for "filets de perche", are Le reposoir in Versoix, and Les Pecheurs, in Sciez sur Leman

If you want good food you do have to go further out, to Yvoire, Thonon or Evian, all in the French coast of the lake. No comparison, foodwise, and the French seem to appreciate the value of location.

Lacustre a good Italian.  I just choked in my breakfast. Stay away from it, it's a tourist trap.

An other good restaurant is restaurant du lac in versoix. True filets de perche from the Geneva lake - great local filet de boeuf - the owner take pride in his work and that is reflected in the service ad quality of food.

If you have a car book a table at Les Jardins du Leman in Yvoire and make sure you are on the panoramic terrasse. The views and food are some of the best i have experienced here.

Thanks again to everyone. I think after all these suggestions I am just going to spend Autumn eating!

It is really nice to know that there are some good options but I still think it is such a shame that more is not made of the lake in Geneva itself.

I think the lake side near Bel Air is being wasted  - watch shops, even a electricals shop, ugly offices...why why why??!!. i just keep imagining how great it would be to have places with lovely wooden terraces, candles, fairy lights and good music and good food........

I have the perfect place in my head...... if only I had the money to make it a reality! In the meantime, I have lots of ideas further around the lake to look into....

Merci tout le monde! :-)

Even if you had the money, the property in the area you mention is not available for such development, never has been and probably never will be -- alas!

You are not the only one to have had such dreams.

Ok so few suggested sites in France, but if you go to Versoix, Copet, Bellevue switzerland has really nice locations with beautiful views of the Alps, not like on the french side viewing Jura.

One really great place for stunning views, excellent filets de perches, impeccable service, no complaints, a great evening (as per Nir of Buyclub/Glocals)

Lacustre

Route de Lausanne 336
1293 Bellevue, Geneva
