Geneve tap water - hard or soft?
Oddly enough, I have just bought a coffee machine for five settings for water hardness.  Does anyone know what the water condition is here in Geneva?  I have never had to worry about this before, but think it's important if I'm going to get the coffee right...

Thx,

Ian

It depends on where you are in Geneva/Canton Geneva.

Go to this site (in French) and run your mouse over the different areas of the Canton. Look for where you live. Some areas get their water from the lake, others have a mix of lake and other sources.

http://www.mieuxvivresig.ch/professionnels/eau/qualite-et-durete-de-l-eau/la-qualite-de-l-eau/index.lbl

You will see the hardness number (French scale) and on the right of the table, they say if the water is soft (eau douce) or hard (dure) or medium (moyennement dure).

From there, you can adjust your machine.

Good luck.

What's better for you?  Hard water with the minerals, or soft water without all that stuff?

Which makes better coffee?

SOFT also for the foam on the coffee, for making dough, and soups etc.

soft by all means.

i have installed a water softener under my sink. well worth it.
