Getting married/ having a blessing in Geneva?
Just need a bit of information from anyone who has married here.

My fiancé and I are looking to finally tie the knot but are finding it a really frustrating experience.

As everybody has to get married at the Mairie-they are rather packed at the moment! This is complicated by the fact that each Mairie is only open one Saturday a month - We wanted to hold the ceremony on Saturday so that we can have guests over for the weekend.

Added to that you can only have a licence for 90 days - so you can't book anything further away than three months(if you are both foreign). I think it is an utterly ridiculous system, but there you are!

I wanted to just do the Mairie ceremony whenever we can and then maybe have a blessing of some kind when it suits us.Has anyone else done this?If so where did you do it? We're not Catholic -does that matter? any other suggestions?

Any advice gratefully received- I'm finding it all a bit of a headache.

Thank you!

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! The red tape can be annoying, but it will work out eventually.

You can absolutely do the town hall official wedding at *their* convenience and afterwards have a church blessing at *your* convenience. My husband and I had our official marriage ceremony at the castle in Nyon on a Friday afternoon (followed by a boat ride to the reception in Yvoire), and a blessing at Emmanuel Episcopal in Geneva the next day. However, I know couples who have had weeks or months between the two events, depending on circumstances.

As my husband is Catholic and I am Evangelical, the Episcopal church was a good solution! Reverend John Beach was so helpful, feel free to contact him with your questions. I think we were his first Swiss wedding back in 2006.

Enjoy!

We came to Geneva recently, planning to marry here. Waiting for receiving the permits. Is it possible to register without permits?
