I am thinking about getting rid of my car here in Geneva but I've been told the process would cost me some money.
Have you got any experience on this (what the procedure is) and do you know whether it can be done for free / get paid for the parts? the car is quite old but still works.

not sure about Geneva but in nearby France it would cost you 52 euros, pick up included. and if the car is old there is not much chance you'd be able to sell some parts.

There are several car "destroyers" in the Peney-Vernier area. Most of them will charge you chf 100.- to 150.- but one of them is still for free, at least in September 2011 when I left there my old car.
Go on http://www.directories.ch/ and search for automobiles demolition in Satigny.
Cannot remember which one was for free ... may be CRAC FONTI (?), you'll have to call. They also took care of the car documents procedure (carte grise), also for free.
