I got serious knee issues, and am looking for a GVA doctor whose speciality is knees.
Any advice will be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Nir

Thanks.
Do you know anyone who actually got treated by Dr. Demottaz? I'd love to speak with this person, to get some more info about the Dr, before I give my knee to him.

Many thanks, will check them both out.
Do you know someone who was treated by either of them, so I can speak with this person to get a bit more info about the Doctors?

Below is a Dr I used when ripped ligaments a few years ago. I didn't need surgery but I have 2 other people who had good experiences with him if you need recommendations.

Hopital de la Tour - Dr. Finn Mahler or one of his colleagues at the sport section. I tore my cross ligaments last year and went to Dr. Mahler - can only recommend it, although I didn't go for surgery, but 9 months later I was skiing again :-). It's difficult though to get an appointment since he's really a big name it seems...
good luck, Bego

I need the appoitment asap, so I'm going to call all the docs recommended here, in the hope that 1-2 of them might be able to see me fast...
Thanks again everyone - much appreciated.

Hi there
Just going through knee hassles myself. I have read all these posts with much interest. Does anyone else have any updates? Nir - did you have any good / poor experiences with any of the consultants you followed up with?
cheers Cristina

Hi Christina
I had a complicated ACL and menisci surgery two years ago at the HUG and would recommend my doctor very highly:
Prof. Daniel Fritschy, Chef de Service de Chirurgie Ortopedique, HUG, tel. 022 3727906
Another good doctor at the same service is Dr. Menetrey
you will find more contact info at www.chirurgie.hug-ge.ch/services/orthopedie/
However, it takes sometimes months to get an appointment in Geneva, particularly now as the ski season is rather busy for knee doctors and particularly at the HUG.
A colleague of mine just had an emergency surgery at the Clinique la Colline and was happy with the doctor but rather unhappy with the Clinique itself.
If you have a private insurance, you might also want to check with some of the private cliniques outside Geneva - perhaps a shorter wait. Clinique de Genolier, above Nyon, is very good. But I don't have any information on their knee doctors.
Good luck!

Hi everybody,
My husband was caught in an avalanche 4 years ago and, besides many other injuries, suffered a total knee dislocation. ACL was just one "side" problem. He went through multiple surgery and ligaments grafts. Dr Menetrey, at the HUG, rebuilt and actually saved his leg, so he can walk again. Besides being an excellent orthopedist, he is still involved in research, has an excellent sense of humor and...to us, he is the best. But like Marianne was saying, he is rather involved in very "heavy" cases and to get an appointment may take months.
Dr Finn Mahler, who still follows my husband at La Tour, is great.

I should have posted this feedback earlier, sorry for the delay.
So I ended up seeing Dr. Fin Mahler at the Hopital de la Tour. He said - contrary to a stong push for an operation from other docs - that my knee would heal without an operation. And it did. So for my money, the knee doctor in Geneva is Fin Mahler.

Hi there
Lots of great advice on this posting! Thanks everyone.
I also ended up going to the Hopital de la Tour (the Sports Medicine Clinic).
I called for the 2x Mahler doctors. Finn Mahler was pretty booked up, so I saw Dr. Per Bo Mahler who was also highly recommended on this site. He gave some good advice & took a lot of time to explain things. The knee is getting better by itself. I will start physio there shortly with someone he recommended who is apparently from the UK and great on alignment issues.
Thanks everyone for your advice.

Hello everyone,
I've seen all your posts concerning the different knee specialists in Geneva. I find the subject very interesting and helpful. I had a skiing accident in Chamonix about a month ago. I have a crossed ligament partial rupture. And i'm about to see in a week for the first time an Orthopedics Surgeon from Geneva. His name is Dr. Tochon Bernard. Has anyone been treated by this doctor?
Thanks a lot for any help or infos on this matter!

Hello Cristina,
I broke my ACL and I need to start rehab with a physio. Would you be able to give me the name of the one you went if you are happy with him/her?
Thanks!

Hello everybody.
Can anyone recommend a doctor for ACL surgery and physio for rehab?
Thank you

Hi
I would recommend Dr Victoria Duthon at Clinique La Colline but only if you have a private insurance. If you on ly have LAMal you'll have to go to the HUG.
As for rehab they will be able to guide you.
