Group Pilates class

Hi,

I have beenin Geneva for 3 months now and am still yet to find a regular weekly group pilates class which I can attend.  All i can find is bespoke one-to-one classes or crazy prices for extending this to a class of 3 or 4.

Can anybody help please?

Thanks.
Matt

Not sure where you are based but there is a place in Central Ferney that offers Pilates classes.  Private or group (minimum 2 people if I understand clearly).

Here is the link I found (in case you are interested): 360-pilates.com

the website is in French though.  You can find the price list and T&C. Hope it helps.

I think Ecole Club Migros has some affordable and good ones. They have some at Balexert for sure, and maybe to other places as well.

Swissbody are very good, they have Centres in Champel and Old Town. You need to sign up for the full semester, and the group size is restricted to a maximum of 5. Obviously this means it's not mega-cheap, but in order to really ensure safe progression and correct form, it's really a good idea to work in a small group. I go to them for weekly semi-privates and have taken a number of their teacher gaining courses.

Thanks everybody for the tips.  I have asked Swissbody about their weekly group classes in the old town which seem semi-reasonably priced, so will maybe see you at a class soon Amy.

Thanks again for the help.

So it seems that Swissbody are insisting that I take 4 private classes (at CHF130 a go) before I can join their weekly group class.  I have been doing pilates for 2 years now and clearly do not need (or want) any kind of pre-assessment before joining a simple weekly class.  Im afraid this is simply just robbery and yet another example of people trying to cash in on the wealth that exists in Switzerland.  Disappointingly, not one for me.

Hi Matt,

Maybe not for you. I'm writing in defense of Swissbody because I know them, they have a lot of integrity and it'd be a shame if their reputation was damaged unduly. 130 an hour is not an extortionate rate. There are cheaper teachers but 130 is not robbery.

The reason for the screening via private classes is not simply to cash in. It may not be necessary in your case but it's really just to ensure that clients have a sound grasp of the technique and can work safely in the group. I often meet new students who come to class with a self-assessed intermediate level in yoga or Pilates, but who are really lacking in fundamental technique or working with misalignment. It slows the whole group down to focus on teaching them the basics. So a pre-assessment is actually doing everyone a favour, as it means the group classes work at a higher level.

Not suggesting this is the case with you, but it does happen. Good luck in finding a more suitable class :-)

Siobhain Coburn does great classes in English for CHF20 a time at the salle under the restaurant Le Passing on Tue at 11.30. Wed and Fri at 9 am, but everyone there is female, so not sure if it would suit and whether the time works. Her email is [email protected].
