Guarantor in renting

Hi,

I am seeking apartments in Geneva and I have a question. Since my net salary is not enough for some of the apartments can I add a second person, who is a friend of mine and willing to help as a guarantor as to sum our salaries? Is this person added to the contract or the contract is signed up from him on behalf of me?

I could not find any information on this especially when googling. If anyone is willing to clarify it for me I would be grateful

Very informative thank you. So I have another question. Should the guarantor's net income be higher than mine or both incomes are sumed up?

I'm not sure. Some internet sites says the two incomes are simply sumed. It may also depend on each "régie" or owner.

Personnaly, if I had a flat to rent, and if person wanted to be a guarantor, I would like that person to own more money than she needs for her current fees (food, her apartment, car, insurances, ...). Otherwise, how could this "guarantor" pay for a second rent?

I think the best is that you ask to one or twe régies
