Gyms in Geneva

Dear all

I am thinking of joining a gym in geneva but have heard alot of mixed reports. Does anyone have any specific information on Holmes Place, Usine Opera, Kieser Training or Silhouette? I just want a nice gym, ideally with some classes and a reasonable price- i dont have any specific needs or anything. Any indication you could give me on price would be much appreciated.

Thanks everyone

hello steve,

from the ones you mentioned silhouette and kieser are certainly the cheapest. silhouette has this CHF 899.- per year offer. holmes place seems to be the most professionally managed place, but is also one of the most expensive gyms.
for nice medium price fitness centers you can also check out plaza sport or california.
have fun.

We checked out Holmes Place and Silhouette.  My wife gets a discount at Holmes Place through work, and we went with them in the end.  Silhouette was just a little too froufrou for us.  They seemed to put more emphasis on the atmosphere and exclusivity than on the actual machines.  I don't need a place to relax and smell jasmine - I need a place to SWEAT!  :)

Holmes easily has 10x the equipment and I've never seen it close to full - but I don't go immediately after work on weeknights, which I assume is the busiest time.

just pick a place near your home or work...will help you keeping motivated!

I am currently at Usine (very nice but expensive) and was before at Holmes (nice but crowded) and plaza sport (nice smaller). i think silhouette is probably the best price/quality wise

I personally go to Silhoette and I really like different classes:

like myself I prefer: aqua-aerobics, CAF and Body Balance.  Silhoutte is not open in the morning (but I don't care) but all S. branches are open on Saturday and some are open on Sunday. I would say that the swimming pool in Wilson branch is small ( I don't think there are any more sw. pools in any other branches) but still nice.  You will find as well that the level of cleanliness as well as staff attention greatly varies depending on the location of the branch. In Wilson branch you get a lot of attention  and they also speak English and the place is generally cleaner than let's say Vermont or Charmilles. However, the class instructors are nice everywhere, I found. One annoying thing, is sometimes the paper runs out and there is nothing to wipe the machines off with, which doesn't happen at Wilson by the way.

Good luck.

Anyone ever tried California? How is it, any advice? I ask for California, as it is the closest to my work, so convenient for me to go at lunch time. Thanks.

if you decide to go with Holmes Place, check out this glocals discount with Holmes Place. You'll get the best corporate rate out there, minus another CHF 100.

Hey Tom,

If you're coming for sure and you want to work out together, I'll wait for you until 7. Works for you?

If yes, I'll be at reception at 7, waiting for you. Lemme know...

You're on mate. And don't come crying to me later that the weights are too heavy for you...(-:

I'll be there 18h30, or maybe a few min late. Will hang around reception to look for you.
