Halte aux magouilles immobilières - Sign the petition against real estate frauds!

The Canton of Geneva built a number of apartments sold at a lower price to allow middle class to buy home.  Now, being Switzerland the way it is, almost all these apartments have been grabbed by rich greedy families with the intent to sold them at a great price some time after.

The ASLOCA and Carlo Sommaruga, conseiller national, are trying to get the Loi Longchamp approved; this law aims at ending these real estate frauds by requiring that buyers take residence in the real estate they buy.

If you are Swiss and a voter in the Canton of Geneva, please sign the petition here: http://halte-aux-magouilles-immobilieres.ch/

The signatures must be collected by September 15th.  Please spread the word.  People need homes!

There are still a few days left.

If you haven't done so yet, please print the petition sheet and have it signed (only Swiss nationals with voting rights in Geneva can sign).  Send it by Sep 15th.  Each sheet can bear 5 signatures but you can also mail back a sheet with less signatures if you weren't able to gather 5.

Thank you.

I'm not Suiss and I can't vote, but isn't there a set of requirements that the buyer must meet (including financial requirements) in order to qualify to buy low cost properties?  Is it really that easy for anyone with plenty of financial resources to be able to buy several of these properties without the intention of living in them?  Well what's the point of building this properties then!?  I thought corruption in Switzerland was quite low.... ok maybe this is not corruption, but then maybe the laws are not really made to benefit those people for whom the properties are built.  Frown

Perhaps in Switzerland corruption is low, but exploiting loopholes, frauding and doing things borderline legal (and absolutely unethical) is extremely widespread.  Hell, Switzerland's wealth is mostly based on this.

There are laws for buying low-cost properties, but they have loopholes, mostly willingly introduced by politicians to benefit them and their rich friends.  Greedy, wealthy Swiss people have no qualms in exploiting that to make more money.  The Longchamp law aims at fixing this.
