Health Insurance

Hi guys,

I arrived to Geneva and I'm staying for 4 months. I understand I need to have a Health Insurance but one person told me I need to have a Swiss once, which is really expensive, and other guys told me I can use my own International insurance just sending a copy to the office.

Is anyone or has anyone gone through the same situation?

Thanks. =)

Hi Andres

I enclose a link to the Swiss law on the obligation to have medical insurance (in French but Google translate can do wonders!). You will see in article 3 that everyone who resides longer than 3 months must have medical insurance. However in the second paragraph they do say some exceptions are allowed. What is important is that you contact the SAM (Sevice Assurance Medicale - link also below) in Geneva to show evidence of your insurance and ask if it is approved. If you do not do this you will have one automatically imposed on you and be paying 2 premiums.
