I've tried to search the other threads and have yet to find a definitive answer about this...Can I NOT get Swiss insurance if I already have health insurance from my employer that is valid in Switzerland? The initial response from my employer was that purchasing Swiss insurance was obligatory even if I was already insured, but then someone else at my HQ said there must be an exemption. In any case I would really like to get out of Swiss insurance as my current insurance is much better and already largely paid for by my employer. Thanks!

Yes you need to have at least the basic insurance with a swiss insurance company, you could do have the complementary with a international polis, only if you work for a UN org. or NGO you are not obliged to use a swiss insurance company.

Also if you pay taxes you are eligible to get an exemption -- there is no need to be working in an int'l organization.
It depends on whether your home country has an agreement (treaty) with Suisse.
Italy has one, and I was able to get the exception, for example.

I was not talking about tax exemption, but about insurance exemption.
I thought that I had gotten one because there was a treaty betw. CH and IT, but I might be wrong, it could just be because Italy is part of the EU.
Best,
Michele
