I'll be moving to Geneva in about three months' time, and I have a few questions which I haven't been able to find the answers to on any of the guide websites. I'm hoping someone here can help me :)
I am a reasonably experienced and capable rider, and here in Australia I often school and exercise other people's horses (because on a student budget I can't afford my own). Is this something which is commonly done in and around Geneva? How do horse owners find people to help exercise their horses?
We have an organisation called Equestrian Australia which provides its members with insurance for horse-related injuries. Is there a similar organisation in Switzerland, or are horse-related injuries usually covered by health insurance?

Hello! A lot of people board their horses around here. You can probably get a part-time job or even volunteer at one of the boarding places or horseback-riding schools & camps in the area. I suggest you contact them directly. Here is a good list to start with: http://yellow.local.ch/fr/q/Gen%C3%A8ve/Pension%20pour%20chevaux.html
There are a few places that specialize in equine therapy in the canton and on the French side of the border. They may welcome volunteers and give you opportunities to take care of and ride their horses. Visit this Website for more info: http://www.therapiecheval.ch/
I should also point out Le Refuge de Darwyn [http://www.refuge-de-darwyn.org], a great place that welcomes mistreated, neglected, and abandoned horses. They always need volunteers. I highly recommend them!
Finally, on a happier note, allow me to share the story of this funny money-making thoroughbred: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/odd/news/a478811/retired-racehorse-finds-success-as-abstract-painter.html
