How to apply for permit B in Vaud

Hello all

Me and my boyfriend moving to Switzerland (Nyon) from France. He has a permit G. He works in Geneva. He contacted his employer to change his permit, but they told him that he needs to do it by himself in Vaud.

Can anyone advise please what to do in our case and how and where to apply for permit B for him. Or can anybody advise a company or a person who can help to fill out the forms. Thanks a lot

In Vaud you need to go the marie of the commune where you live. They will give you the forms (or you can sometimes download them) and explain you what you need to do!

Good luck

Dear Martin, thanks a lot. Is it difficult to apply for the permit? Will they change his permit G to B automatically? Person from working permits department from his work said that they will pay the expanse.

Hey Alexandra,

Go to the commune and ask for it. They will give you a form for you to fill with some data.

You will need 2 photos, a copy of the lease and employment contract.

Well, at least was what I needed to give them  when I applied for mine. It took 6 weeks for me to receive it (they say it was quite fast).

The only expense I had with my permit was 65.-, when I received it. But it can be different in other I don't know if he is from UE, so it can be different. Better if you ask there.

The type of permit depends on the type of work contract.

Alexandra,

The process itself is straight forward. Make sure you have all the documents listen on the website. The costs are not that bad. Be prepared that you have to come back because some of the documents where not fully in order.

As from an EU state:

Documents required

The documents to be produced during an arrival are different depending on the origin, family composition, nationality and purpose of stay in Switzerland.

Major single (e)

Married (e), separated (e), divorced (e), widow (er), registered partnership

3 photos
Identity card and / or passport
Leasing or purchasing act (+ authorization if housing sublease)
AVS map
Form of activity taken if workplace in the canton of Vaud
Employment contract

3 photos
Identity card or passport
Family certificate and / or Partnership Deed
Marriage if event abroad
If the child (s), act (s) of birth
Extract divorce judgment
Leasing or purchasing act (+ authorization if housing sublease)
Form of activity taken if workplace in the canton of Vaud
Employment contract

and from non-eu states (the lists are also on the website)

Dear guys,

thank you very much for useful information. We went to commune today and got documents to fill in. They said it might take up to 3 months to receive a permit :-( So, will have to wait.

Hi all,

I know this thread is from a good few years back but I wondered if anyone had some up to date info on acquiring a b permit (for a Brit).

I was up until last year in Geneva then Nyon for 5 years but went back to the UK for my maternity leave to be with family. This meant I had to unfortunately give up my permit. I have a permanent contract with a local international school and they had assured me I would be supported with my reapplication on return. This is now very much up in the air and Im really nervous I wont be able to come back.

If anyone has any advice on what to do I would be really appreciative. I had considered getting a visa lawyer to do an application (this was recommended) but I dont know where Id find one?

Thanks!

Charlie

Unfortunately the UK shot pretty much itself in the foot with Brexit, as UK has now third-country status and its citizens are now subject to immigration quotas if they want to come living in Switzerland.

From this page:

"UK nationals coming to Switzerland to work from 1 January 2021 are subject to the admission requirements in the Foreign Nationals and Integration Act (FNIA). This means that from 1 January 2021 only essential managers and specialists from the UK will be admitted to work here, if this is in the overall economic interests of Switzerland. Persons with specialist professional knowledge or skills may be admitted if it can be shown that these skills are required. Swiss residents and EU/EFTA nationals are given preference, and the wage and work conditions standard for the location, profession or sector must be observed.

You should apply to the competent cantonal immigration and labour market authority for a work permit.

More information on the admission requirements for third-county nationals can be found here: Non-EU/EFTA nationals

Information for UK nationals on coming to Switzerland to work can be found here: UK nationals coming to Switzerland to work from 1 January 2021"

So you must apply for a permit, which can be approved or denied depending on your professional profile and needs on the CH market. Perhaps you can ask for advice at your school and have them write a statement (to join to your permit application) in your support.
