Go to any shoe repair outlet.  Mister Minute, for example, or any shoe store.

Usually nothing, if you ask nicely.

But it’s good if you offer to pay and if that’s refused, well, you can always buy a pair of shoelaces or something similar.

Shops selling ladies’ handbags have a special tool to make holes in shoulder bag straps, so that’s another place you could go.

Personally, I’ve never had to pay anything whenever I’ve needed this kind of help.

If no Mister Minit can do it for free AND if none of your friends have a hammer & nail, you can buy a specific tool in any DIY shop (i.e. M-Parc).

It's called a Pince emporte-pièce or Pince emporte-trou or "Pince à faire les trous de ceinture", and it looks like this:

http://www.maison-et-confort.fr/Pince-emporte-piece-458444.html

Price goes from approx chf 6.- (simple) to approx. chf. 20.- (multi-size).
