Actually,regarding the "predicton" ,the way things are going in the world right now,I'd say "why not"?

(Children slaughtered by  mad gunman,children slaughtered daily in war-torn/disease-ridden countries(but they don't get so noticed) ,one in ten children estimated to be victims of child abuse(in the UK!!),people struggling to make ends meet because of the crisis while countries cut state help to the poorest,,shops trying to convince us to spend needlessly over budget at Xmas,politicians accused of pimping in France - even worse in italy.....     Oh lordy....Bring -  it-  ON!!

Why would the Mayans know anything more than other civilizations? the just cut off more and more heads because of fear of the continued drought, they didnt know even about there own impending doom, so why they would know about impending doom thousands of years later???

Why do you persist in continuously displaying your ignorance and prejudice? The Mayans did not predict the end of the world. Some idiot in your country, yes, that place where 46% according to a recent Gallup poll, believe "God" created the world 10,000 years ago, misinterpreted the fact that the Mayan calendar ends on December 21, 2012. Which in the Mayan contextual framework means the end one cycle and the begining of the next one. 

How can someone from a "civilization" where children are slaughtered at schools, and where there are repeated mass shootings, not to mention the high indices of obesity, high levels of air pollution and dangerous additives in the food supply, toxic culture of violence and mindless consumerism, dare make baseless ignorant allegations about the Mayas "cutting off heads" because of fear of continued draught? Where do you dream up that nonsense? Draught in the rain forests of Yucatan or Guatemala? Do you even have any concept of how ridiculous you sound? 

As for "people who love to be paranoid", are you refering to the people who have all those ridiculous "safety" measures at your airports, metal detectors at schools, etc?
