Ideas for easy walks/hikes in Mt Blanc/Chamonix area

Any ideas for a day-trip to the Mt Blanc/Chamonix area?  I'm traveling with a family group of 6, ages ranging from 5 to 75, so it needs to be something quite easy - really a walk more than a hike.

Great views would be wonderful, also a huge bonus would be the chance of finding any crystals - I have an 8 year old who's crazy about them.  I know there's a crystal museum, but we'd really rather have the chance of finding some ourselves.

thanks for any ideas!!

Since you mentioned the crystal museum you may already know the ice lake. My wife, my parents and I went there a few weeks ago and loved it. Going up (by train and a short cable cart) is a bit expensive (35 Euros I think). From the end of the cable cart you have to descent some stairs but you can take your time and it really isn't too hard. The cave is fantastic.

Up there there's a crystal gallery (rather than a museum), which is small but an 8-year-old will be impressed.

Not really my scene but here we go - crystals forget you have to go off the beaten track to find any and I mean really off. Today crystal hunters are forced to become alpinisits to visit ridges and couloirs rarely visited.

There is an alpine zoo on the left before you get to Chamonix.  At the col des Montets on the road from Argentiere to Martigny there ia an alpine garden whose round trip takes about half an hour.  The maison de toiurisme usually runs a video which can be interesting

A beautiful hike but it might be too long is from the top of the Flegère Cable car to the Lac Blanc but walking slowly you have to reckon 3-4 hours return trip.
