Immunizations & foreign medical insurance

Hello all,

I arrived in Geneva about two months ago, but was just recently offered an opportunity to work in Southeast Asia for a short period of time. Although it is not mandatory for work, I would like to receive a few immunizations before I leave.

I was wondering if anyone had insight into the process for those covered under non-Swiss health insurance (mine is from USA). In addition, I would be very greatful for any references for English speaking doctors (either GPs or those specializing in tropical diseases) -- I'm afraid I am not proficient enough in French to comfortably discuss medical issues.

Thanks in advance,

Maurizio

My experience with the vacination centre at the HUG (cantonal hospital) is that there is english speaking staff available. See http://www.hug-ge.ch/le-centre-votre-service and http://www.safetravel.ch/

Vaccines are not very expensive and they will tell you the cost before you commit. I think my full set was much less than 100chf and included most of the standard tropical ones.

For refuning the cost of your vacinations contact your health insurer as they are the only ones who know what is needed and possible in regards to paperwork.

PS. If you work in Switserland (not UN) you have one more month to change to a swiss Lamal health insurance.

Hope this helps a bit.
