Does anyone what the story is when buying electronics from the US online and having them sent to a Geneva address. Is it better to have them sent to a French address?

Virtually everything incoming from Amazon or other large online internet sales will be pulled and then they inspect the package declaration. If ok, they will assess a VAT/TVA tax 8% and admin fee normally about CHF 20-
France i have no idea, but if you buy from Amazon.fr and deliver in France, you will pay the french +/-18% VAT

Thanks Dave. So it seems it's best to just import directly into Switzerland. 8% aint so bad.

Exactly , 8% is about that same if you buy in the USA. But the admin fees are extra, but when you compare the Choice and often the prices from Amazon, its worth it. Sometimes its even better if you go to Amazon.fr (french version) and the shipping is free as its next door to France. And I think also works with Amazon.de but double check but those sites are not in English.
